The Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia (AOEMM) were invited by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health for the Round Table Discussion on the Priority Areas and Aspects for Occupational Health in Malaysia. The event was held at the Wisma MSOSH in Shah Alam on the 7 February 2020. The aim of the discussion is to provide feedback to the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) for the development of the next Malaysia OSH Master Plan, which will be for 2021-2025.
Drs Anza Elias, Victor Hoe and Marzuki Isahak represented the AOEMM in the event. The other participants included representatives from the Ministry of Health, Universities, and occupational safety and health societies and associations.
The participants were divided into five groups to discuss issue on occupational health based on five major headings; i.e., (1) Occupational Health Benchmarking; (2) Occupational Health Professional, Competency and Capability Development; (3) Standardisation and Supply Chain Management; (4) Focus and priority for Department of Occupational Safety and Health; and (5) Networking and Internationalising Occupational Health. The results of the discussion were presented to all the participants, and changes were made based on their input. The AOEMM will be compiling the results of the discussion and coming out with the report to be presented to DOSH.
