AOEMM Undergraduate Writing Competition on Occupational Health and Medicine


The Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia (AOEMM) is pleased to announce a writing competition open to all undergraduate medical students enrolled in Malaysian medical schools. This initiative aims to foster interest and engagement among students in the vital field of Occupational Health and Medicine, with a particular emphasis on Malaysia and the surrounding region.

Objectives:

  1. Promote Engagement: Encourage medical students to explore the field of Occupational Health and Medicine.
  2. Platform for Expression: Provide a forum for students to share their perspectives and research findings.
  3. Identify Future Professionals: Recognise promising future professionals in the field.

Topics:

Submissions should focus on topics relevant to Occupational Health and Medicine, particularly those pertinent to Malaysia and the region. Possible areas of exploration include, but are not limited to, workplace health policies, case studies, occupational diseases, innovations in workplace safety and health, and public health implications.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate medical students currently enrolled in Malaysian medical schools.
  • Word Count: Submissions must be between 2000 and 3000 words.
  • Format: All submissions must be in English, typed, double-spaced, and in a 12-point Times New Roman font.
  • References: Submissions should include relevant references with consistent citation and referencing style throughout. The Vancouver style is recommended.
  • Originality: All work must be original, not previously published, and created without the assistance of generative AI tools or any form of AI-generated content. Submissions must be the exclusive work of the student authors.
  • Submission Limit: Each student is allowed to submit only one entry. Multiple submissions from the same student will result in disqualification.
  • Verification Letter: Each submission must include a letter verifying the student’s current enrolment in a Malaysian medical school.
  • Submission Process: All submissions must be made through the completion of the Submission Form and uploading the write-up and the verification letter. No submissions will be accepted via email or other means.
  • Deadline for Submission: 31 May 2025

Judging Criteria:

  • Relevance to the field of Occupational Health and Medicine.
  • Originality and creativity.
  • Quality of research and analysis.
  • Clarity of expression and logical flow.
  • Adherence to submission guidelines.

Awards:

The top ten entries will be published on the AOEMM’s official website.

  • First Prize: RM1000 and certificate
  • Runner-up: RM500 and certificate
  • Consolation Prizes: RM200 and certificate (x 8 prizes).

Judging Panel:

The winner will be decided by a committee established by the Council of the Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia. This panel comprises experts in the field of Occupational Health and Medicine.
