Dinner Talk by Dr Ismail Bahari from Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP)

The Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Malaysia organised a dinner talk for its members in conjunction with the Extraordinary General Meeting. Prof Dr Ismail Bahari the General Manager of Radiation Safety form LAMP completed his Master of Science from the University of London in the United Kindom in 1980 and proceded to complete his Doctor of Philosophy from the Colorado State University in the United States of America in 1989. He is also the Professor from the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Prof Ismail presented the paper on System Management in Radiation Safety at the LAMP. He discussed the various safety and health issue that was present in the Rare Earth Industry and shared the practice that LAMP has put in placed to ensure that their plant in Kuantan, Pahang is safe. He also presented on the used of Rare Earth in the Green Industries. After his paper, there were heated discussion and opinion from the members of AOEMM. The main issue raised was on the safety of the operation and why was Malaysian chosen as the place for the operations.
